ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE

Taking accountability for our working environment as well as our natural environment is very important to us here at Philtronics. Therefore, ensuring Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) across the business is a top priority.

ENVIRONMENTAL

We are committed to operating in a manner that minimises our impact on the environment and we continuously strive to improve our carbon footprint through restorative actions. This has been done in several ways, such as installing photovoltaic (PV) panels on our warehouse roof, generating 37.87 MWh of the building’s electricity and offsetting 8.82 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, which is the equivalent of planting 405 trees.


Other environmental actions we have undertaken include some employees making the swap to electric vehicles (EV) and investing in installing EV chargers at our warehouse to accommodate their move to more sustainable transportation, which will save four tonnes of CO2 annually.

SOCIAL

We believe that well-motivated, highly engaged employees are critical in delivering service excellence for customers. However, this can only be achieved if employees have access to a safe and healthy working environment. Our philosophy is to work safely and leave safely every day, whilst also taking responsibility for the safety of others.

 

Respect is another value that we hold highly as part of our social obligations. Employees, as well as senior team leaders, are encouraged to always consider others, recognise personal differences and be considerate. In turn, this creates a happy working environment; positivity empowers people, helping them to overcome difficult times.

 

We are also dedicated to our people – our employees, stakeholders, customers and communities, and we showcase this through our robust corporate social responsibility commitments. From a partnership with the Ospreys where we played a central role in transforming the Ospreys’ work in the community to the five-year programme with Action for Children in which £100,000 was raised over the period. Employees are always highly encouraged to get involved in team activities that aim to benefit our local communities, such as contributing to fundraisers throughout the year. These are also fantastic team building opportunities and we have always seen a massive boost in morale and community spirit during these types of fundraising events. Across the whole of Philtronics, we are passionate about giving back and investing in Wales.

GOVERNANCE

Our customers can be safe in the knowledge that we are fully committed to a continuous improvement culture which is underpinned by quality management systems. As well as this, we take security very seriously, so our customers can be assured that their product will maintain its intellectual property rights and arrive at its destination safely, securely and on time. We will always offer the best plan of action for each customer. This is upheld at every level of the company as we will always act in an open and honest manner, creating mutual trust through having the right conversations.

 

This also applies not only to how we interact with customers but also to how we run Philtronics. We are always striving for a diverse and inclusive workforce and senior leadership team. This is because inclusive teams are 35% more productive and make better decisions 87% of the time. Diversity and inclusion make for a happy workforce; therefore, in the near future, we will be offering opportunities such as The Academy which will provide students from across various backgrounds, ages and genders the chance to join a thriving industry. This is especially significant when it comes to promoting women in STEM-related occupations, and it is represented in our senior leadership team, which is made up of persons aged 33 to 58 and includes 44% women, some of whom are degree-educated and others who are school leavers. We are also proud to be part of the 17.3% of UK businesses that are female led with female representation on the board and senior leadership team. Despite the stereotype of the manufacturing industry being a male-dominated field, Philtronics is made up of 48% male employees and 52% female employees. This is because we provide and equal opportunities to everyone, no matter their gender.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

For two decades, Philtronics has built a robust and resilient reputation in the manufacturing industry for nothing short of excellence. To maintain our edge, we remain dynamic, agile and adaptable, finding ways to deliver incomparable levels of service no matter the objective. This means we will always build the best product and provide the best service. We embrace reliability, discipline, teamwork and timeliness. As well as this, we are continuously looking to improve our operation to ensure we are always bringing the highest quality products to our customers. This also applies to where we source our materials, we use trusted suppliers who strictly follow the Conflict Minerals Regulation, so our customers can be safe in the knowledge that their product is not funding violence, human rights abuses or other overseas crimes. To further promote a healthy and ethical supply chain, our supplier base adheres to the Modern Slavery Act (MSA 2015).

With a team certified in IPC, including IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620, and an ISO 9001-certified Quality Management System and Health & Safety Management System based on the principles of the ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015 specifications, we can always ensure that our manufacturing processes are conducted to the highest standards and with the best materials. Your product will always be quality checked by our professional and qualified team before dispatch. This process involves inspecting and testing the product with the approved test procedure you design and supply to ensure the product is functionally tested and meets your approval before leaving the building. We are also RoHS and WEEE compliant in order to best protect the environment in line with our long-term environmental strategy. So our customers can rest assured that their product is not actively contributing to polluting or harming the environment or wildlife.

 

Philtronics have also begun their Cyber Essentials journey. Becoming Cyber Essentials certified is a crucial step for us to fortify our digital defences and safeguard sensitive information. This certification demonstrates a commitment to robust cybersecurity practices, assuring Philtronics takes the protection of data seriously. By adhering to the Cyber Essentials framework, we establish a baseline of essential security measures, such as firewalls, secure configurations, and access controls. This not only helps thwart common cyber threats but also positions Philtronics as a trustworthy and reliable business in the eyes of customers and collaborators.
