Staff Spotlight: Ian Morgan

Anne Pritchard • February 23, 2024

Meet Ian Morgan; Ian is one of the newest Philtronics team members, joining us in January as our Engineering Manager. Although he has only been with us briefly, Ian has positively impacted many departments and teams thanks to his 25 years of experience within the industry.

Let’s learn more about Ian, his role, and how his knowledge of electronics manufacturing helps Philtronics.

Q. What does your role involve? What does a typical day look like?

A. Although I’m still new to the role, there are specific responsibilities and tasks that I must carry out. I mainly look after customer returns; from the moment a return comes in, it’s my responsibility to fix the issue. Although I won’t necessarily carry out this test myself, I will liaise with various teams, such as production managers and the repairs department, to figure out the fault and resolve the problem quickly and efficiently for the customer.

Q. What kind of important decisions do you have to make in your role?

A. As an Engineering Manager, I need to make various essential decisions. One of my priorities is streamlining the return merchandising authorisation (RMA) process, both internally and externally. As mentioned, customer returns are a big part of my role, so I must review these processes to maximise their potential.

Q. What is your favourite part of your role?

A. Despite having only been part of the Philtronics team since January, there has been a wide range of aspects that I’ve enjoyed about my new role. My favourite part has been meeting all the incredible staff here. Philtronics feels very family-orientated in that everyone is close-knit, like a family; it’s such a pleasant working environment.

Q. How did you become interested in this field?

A. I’ve always had an interest in electronics and engineering from an early age; it began when I started taking physics classes in school, and from there, my interest grew, and I went on to study electronics in college. I’ve been in the industry for over 25 years, and electronics is still finding new ways to pique my curiosity.

Q. What makes Philtronics a good company to work for?

A. I’ve enjoyed the atmosphere so far; as I’ve mentioned already, everyone feels like family, as everyone knows each other well. Therefore, I interact significantly with everyone, regardless of their department.

Q. Would you recommend others to apply for this type of role? Is it rewarding, challenging?

A. Yes, I’d recommend this role to those interested in electronics. It’s challenging but in a good way! In this role, you get to see projects through to completion, and seeing the whole journey from start to finish is very rewarding.
